Helen "Marie" Maready Holton

April 27, 1950 — January 24, 2026

Reelsboro

Helen “Marie” Maready Holton, 75, of Reelsboro, NC passed away January 24, 2026, at her home surrounded by family and friends. She was born on April 27, 1950, in Duplin County to the late Norwood Maready and Hettie Mae Brock Maready.

Marie was a proud beautician who loved all of her clients, many who she called family and others she called friends. Each one held a special place in her heart. After her career of 35 years you would often see her heading to Daniels-Sadler Funeral Home or in her garage where she took pride in making them all look their best. She truly found her niche and loved what she did.

Marie loved working in her yard, and it showed when you drove by or pulled up for a visit. In her younger years you would catch her on the water with her beloved husband baiting her hook or whipping her fly rod trying to catch a bass or whatever would hit her line. Her greatest accomplishment was her family whom she dearly loved and cherished with all of her heart.

Marie loved cooking and canning vegetables she gathered from her garden. She was most famous for her canned tomatoes which her husband dearly loved. She was also known for the best pickles and fried chicken. She could also cook a steak better than any steakhouse around. Other hobbies were listening to her music, dancing, and singing. Often on Friday nights and any other times the notion struck her and her better half, you would see them mingling and shooting pool at the Broad Creek Country Club.

Marie was preceded in death by her loving sisters, Joyce Henry (Hank), Iris Holdren (John) and Ann Hatcher (Tiny) and her brother, James Allen “Tink” Maready.

Marie is survived by the love of her life of 54 years, Micheal “Mike” Wyatt Holton; her two daughters, Robin Johnson Hardison (Jack) and Lori Ann Jalbert (Tim); her grandchildren, Josh Hardison (Tina), Dayna Simpson (Samuel), Devan Banks, and Jayda Caraway; great grandchildren, Kandyce Hardison, Skilar Hardison, Lane Simpson, and Minnie Simpson; brother, Dean Maready (Alice); and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Her family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 28th at Daniels-Sadler Funeral Home. Her funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Nelson Hatcher officiating. Interment will follow immediately in the Hardison family cemetery in Olympia.
