Henry “Bud” Arthur Barker, Jr., 84, of Trent Woods, passed away Friday, June 21. 2024, at Grantsbrook Nursing & Rehab.
Henry, affectionately known as Bud, was born in Pamlico County to the late Henry Arthur Barker, Sr. and Bessie Davis Barker, one of seven children.
Bud was a true family man who cherished his family and the time spent with them. His compassionate nature led him to help or find help for anyone in need. He was a man of faith who loved the Lord above all else and was an active member of Reelsboro Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Bud started his career at Tryon Palace, followed by director of Parks and Recreation at the City of New Bern. He later worked and retired from Weyerhaeuser. His talent as a gardener was evident to anyone who admired his immaculate yard. He enjoyed crossword puzzles as long as his health allowed. His nurturing spirit was showcased with the many animals he saved and raised throughout his life.
In addition to his parents, Bud was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Barnett and Maxine Kuhn; and son, Kevin Barker.
Those left to treasure his memory are his loving wife of 38 years, Anita Barker; sons, Dennis Barker (Michelle), Jeffrey Barker; daughter, Debbie Bradley (Tom); stepsons, Jess Rayner (Tracy) and Will Rayner (Tracy); brother, Ralph Barker (Bettie); sisters, Bea McDonagh, Libby Harbin (Hal), and Betty Priester (John); eight grandchildren, Jason Barker, Becky Pearce (Tim), Elissa Morris, Chanda Farrell (Bobby), Emily Rayner, Ross Rayner, Jay Rayner, and Justin Bradley (Elizabeth); and 12 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service to honor Bud’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 26th at New Bern Memorial Cemetery with Pastor Alan Woodard officiating.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Reelsboro Pentecostal Holiness Church, 221 Neuse Rd., New Bern, NC 28560.
