Herbert “Herb” Emil Fritze, 88, of Reelsboro, NC, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2026, at CarolinaEast Medical Center.
Born with a strong work ethic and a servant’s heart, Herb lived a life marked by dedication to his family, his faith, and his community. As long as his health allowed, he was an active and devoted member of St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, where his faith remained an important foundation throughout his life.
Herb proudly served his country as a United States Navy veteran. Following his military service, he worked for many years in the maintenance department with American Airlines, from which he later retired. Never one to sit still, Herb went on to own and operate Landing Nursery in Reelsboro, a business that reflected his love for hard work and the land. Previously, he gave of his time as a volunteer fireman with the Reelsboro Volunteer Fire Department, serving his community with courage and commitment.
He was preceded in death by his wives, Elizabeth Kramer Fritze and Margie Phillips Fritze; his son, John William Fritze; his daughter, Bette Ann Fritze; and his granddaughter, Heather Brink.
Herb leaves behind cherished memories in the hearts of those who loved him, including his daughter, Lisa Rice and her husband, Keith; his grandchildren, Joshua Rice and his wife, Siramad, and Sarah Rice; and his great-grandchild, Kye Rice.
A visitation will be held from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday evening, January 14th, at Daniels-Sadler Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorial contribuitons be made to St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, 1149 White Farm Rd., Oriental, NC 28571 or to the Reelsboro Volunteer Fire Department Station #9, 105 Holland Dr., New Bern, NC 28560.
Herb will be remembered for his quiet strength, unwavering dedication, and the deep love he held for his family and community. His legacy of service and faith will continue to live on through all who knew and loved him.
