Herman Jackson Buck, 89, of Alliance died peacefully at the home of his daughter on Thursday, December 9, 2021.
He attended Bayboro Baptist Church until he became ill in 2018.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Hines Buck; father, Walter Hughes Buck; mother, Lura Price Hunnings and step-father, Carlos Hunnings; brother, Milon Buck; and sister, Lois Riggs.
He is survived by his daughter, Cathy Spencer and husband, Claud of Alliance; two grandchildren, Stacy Nelson and husband, Craig, of Grantsboro and Clay Spencer of New Bern; one great-granddaughter, Savannah Nelson; brothers, Roy Buck (Jackie) of Grantsboro, Jimmy Buck of Alliance, and Melvin Hunnings of Beaufort; sisters, Wilma Merchant and Hazel Alcock (Frank), both of New Bern; brother-in-law, Bud Hines of Virginia; sisters-in-law, Edna Jarvis of Virginia, Betty Hartman of South Carolina, Linda Saulter (Charlie) of Bridgeton, and Linda Powell (Walter) of Grantsboro; and many nieces and nephews.
Herman served our country in the US Army. He retired from PCS Phosphate (Nutrien) in 1993 with 27 years of service. Herman loved his family dearly and was always willing to stop whatever he was doing to help someone out. He and Thelma loved to travel in their motorhome often with family and friends. His favorite place to visit was the NC and Tennessee mountains. He enjoyed gardening and taking care of his yard.
A service to celebrate Herman’s life will be held on Monday, December r13th at 11:00 a.m. at the Lakeside Chapel Pavilion at Greenleaf Memorial Park, 900 River Rd., New Bern with the Rev. Robert Miller and the Rev. Bud Hines officiating. The family will receive friends and relatives immediately after the service, and at other times at the home of Claud and Cathy.
