Hermelinda Padilla Cruz, 59, of Grantsboro, NC, passed away peacefully at home on May 7, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

Hermelinda was a woman of deep faith who found comfort and community in attending St. Paul Catholic Church in New Bern. Her faith guided her life and was reflected in the kindness and generosity she showed to others every day.

She will be lovingly remembered for her incredible talent in the kitchen. Hermelinda was an amazing cook who found great joy in preparing meals for her family, friends, and community. Whether it was a large gathering or a simple family meal, she poured her heart into every dish. She often shared her gift through catering, always happy to bring people together through food and fellowship.

Above all, Hermelinda cherished her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, and sister who gave her love freely and unconditionally.

She was preceded in death by her father, Rogelio Padilla and brother, Rogelio Padilla.

Left to cherish her memory are her mother, Alicia Cruz; her devoted husband of 46 years, Lamberto Lugo; sons, Saint Rogelio Lugo Padilla, Alberto Lugo Padilla, and Martin Lugo Padilla; daughter, Melyssa De Jesus Lugo Padilla; brother, Eberardo Padilla Cruz and Adoian Padilla; sister, Martha Padilla Cruz; and grandchildren, Alfredo Madrid Lugo, Lamberto Lugo, and Sofia Lugo.

A funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, May 11th at Daniels-Sadler Funeral Home. Interment will take place in Tijuana, Mexico.

The family will receive friends and relatives one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741.

Hermelinda fue una mujer de profunda fe que encontraba consuelo y comunidad al asistir a la Iglesia Católica St. Paul en New Bern. Su fe guió su vida y se reflejaba en la bondad y generosidad que mostraba a los demás cada día.

Será recordada con cariño por su increíble talento en la cocina. Hermelinda era una cocinera excepcional que encontraba gran alegría en preparar comidas para su familia, amigos y comunidad.
