Jackie Merle Sears Johnson, 90, of Trent Woods North Carolina transitioned to heaven to be with her Lord Jesus on June 28, 2024. She passed in the arms of her daughters with her son in law singing her favorite Christian songs to her. She was born on September 17, 1933 in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. She is predeceased by her parents, William Benjamin “Willie B” Sears and Gladys C. Adams, her Aunt Delphia Sears Corbett and Uncle Red Corbett.
Jackie, known as Sister, Momma, Mother, MeMaw, Grandma and Aunt, is survived by her brother, Major William Richard Sears of England; loving daughters: Carlee Sears Johnson and Saundra Gayle Johnson-Clark along with Son in law, Donald John Clark; grandsons: Ryan Keith Vinson and wife Bishaka Vinson, Brenton Carl Vinson; granddaughter: Brittney Sarah DiSesa and husband Drew DiSesa; great grandchildren: Jack, Will and Lily DiSesa; and many other nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Aunt Delphia Sears and Uncle Red Corbett of Greenville, NC were integral in raising Jackie from an early age on. Later while working for Dupont in Kinston, Jackie met and married Carl Wayne Johnson of which she had her two daughters. She graduated from East Carolina University in 1969 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. She taught business, was the Office Manager for Landin LTD and worked for the NC School System until she retired.
Jackie’s heart was always directed towards her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Her life was spent sharing Christ with all who would listen but also sharing Him in action. She contributed to many charities and helped individuals too. She taught Bible studies during her high school years, she played the piano for numerous churches, and she handled the office administration of her daughter’s ministry for many years. Jackie loved to worship Christ and often had her arms held high in honor of Him.
Her hobbies were: her grand dog Milo, poems, ping pong, puzzles, lemon cake, water skiing and bird watching. She was an avid tennis player (Greensboro NC Women’s 35 +Champion 1973, 1974 plus won other titles) riding her motorcycle to the tournaments. She played the spoons, banjo, and wash tub bass for Blue Grass festivals with accolades and awards featured in news articles. Jackie was an accomplished pianist playing the piano right up to last year for Christmas specials and her church.
Jackie’s smile could light up a room, and definitely lit up many hearts. She always had a smile on her face, even to the end. She said for us to remember that “her last breath here was followed by her first breath in heaven”. We celebrate along with her that because of the One she loves, Jackie lives on!
