On June 1, 2026, at the age of 99 years and 6 months, Jacquelyn "Jackie" Bonner Ensley, died peacefully at The Home Place of New Bern, where she had resided for several months, receiving care for late-stage dementia.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, George Washington Ensley (2007); her daughter, Jacquelyn Ann Ensley Robinson (2013); and her youngest son, Thomas "Ernie" Ensley (2024).
To cherish her memory, Jackie is survived by her son, George W. Ensley and daughter-in-law Cindy; and son-in-law, Tommy Robinson.
Her six grandchildren will remember the special times they each had with Grandma Jackie - Lyn Hammonds (James), Erin Moore (Mack), George Ensley Ill (India), Matthew Ensley (Janet), Kimberly Russell (Rusty), and Michael Robinson (Jen).
Although the dementia robbed her of remembering much about her 14 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren, she leaves behind great grandchildren, Mack Moore Ill, George Ensley IV, Kira Ensley, Aurora Ensley, Jakob Ensley, Lucas Ensley, Cameron Ensley, Kaiya Ensley, Allen Lewis (Allison), Chase Russell, Maci Russell, Mike Robinson, Matthew Robinson, Miles Robinson; and great-great grandchildren, Ruby Jean Lewis and Logan Lewis.
As a mother, Jackie spent countless hours with her children as they grew up. Traveling was a passion for both Jackie and daughter Ann, as well as teaching Ann to cook. Lots of weekends were spent with Ernie, his horse and horse shows. Exploring the outdoors and answering all of son George's questions about everything was her favorite activity with him.
Jackie's life was full of adventure. After running a successful family business, Ensley's Radio Company, from 1945-1987, she and her husband traveled in a motor home for 20 years, camping in every state in the US except Hawaii. An avid reader, Jackie started each day reading her Bible (which is worn out), followed by a good novel or devotional book.
Active in her church until she was no longer able to do so, Jackie enjoyed worshiping and serving the Lord at Neuse Forest Presbyterian Church for many years. After her husband died, she found comfort in her friendships she developed at the church; many have lasted for twenty years.
The family is forever grateful to those who have cared for Jackie these past five years —you helped make her life happy and comfortable. You also provided support and relief to the family.
A funeral service will be held at Daniels-Sadler Funeral Home in Alliance on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at 11 am. The family will receive friends and relatives one hour prior to the service. A private burial will follow the service at White Hill Free Will Baptist Church cemetery in Aurora.
In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial contributions to an organization, of your choice, working to find a cure for dementia and its related hardships.
