James Leon “J.L.” Overton, Sr., 90, of Aurora passed away Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at CarolinaEast Medical Center.

James Leon affectionately known as J.L., was a man of faith who attended Friendship Pentecostal Holiness Church. He retired from Potter Oil Co. on January 1, 2024, after many years of service.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James “Jim” and Ethel Overton; son, James Leon “Lee” Overton, Jr.; one brother; and two sisters.

J.L. will be deeply missed by his devoted wife, Margaret Overton; son, Ricky Overton (Tim Speakman); daughter-in-law, Kelly Overton; sisters, Irene Mayo, Jackie Thompson, and Tappy McMillan; two grandchildren, Jamie Woolard Overton (Sandy) and Trey Overton (Erica); and five great-grandchildren, Leah Cahoon, Landon Cahoon, Jaxsan Woolard Overton, MaKenna Overton and Brody Overton.

A funeral service to honor J.L.’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 10th at Daniels-Sadler Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Brother Lee Dunbar. Interment will be in Warren Memorial Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
