James Linston “J.L.” Newcomb, 86, of Merritt passed away Monday, November 25, 2024, at Riverpoint Crest Rehabilitation Center.

J.L. is a member of Trent Free Will Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Rebecca Newcomb; wife, Barbara Newcomb; infant sister, Bertha Newcomb; sister, Joyce Holland; and brothers, Joseph, Lewis, Preston, and Charles Newcomb.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are sisters, Lillie Mae Woodard and Rebecca “Becky” Murray.

His funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 2nd at Daniels-Sadler Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ray Griffin officiating. Interment will be in Queen Ann Cemetery, Fountain, NC.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers the family suggested memorial contributions be made to The Salvation Army, PO Drawer E, New Bern, NC 28560 or Trent FWB Church, PO Box 104, Merritt, NC 28556.
