Janice Ethel Sears Davis, 86, of Grantsboro, NC passed away surrounded by her family, Monday, November 11, 2024, at CarolinaEast Medical Center, New Bern, NC.

Janice was born November 12, 1937, in Rockland, Massachusetts to Wesley Burton Sears and Ethel Mabel Rollston. She was the baby and fourth daughter.

Janice met her husband, Arlen Hunter Davis a southerner from Jones County, NC while he was in the Navy stationed in Rhode Island through a mutual friend on May 15, 1957. They were engaged on December 25, 1958 and married July 11, 1959. They celebrated 62 years of marriage before his passing in 2021.

Together they raised three children and lived between their home states of North Carolina and Massachusetts. Jance always loved New Hampshire, and they moved there as well before settling back down in North Carolina.

Janice worked hard and helped provide for her children whatever they needed. She enjoyed her career as a Medical Transcriptionist and was the fastest typer known – 130 words a minute with no errors. She spent her last 10 years working at East Carolina Internal Medicine and in 2000 she retired with her husband, Arlen “Dave”, retiring shortly after.

They enjoyed several trips to North Myrtle Beach and the Mountains of North Carolina and loved to go out for lunch to Charlie’s, Gary’s and Hwy 55, their favorite places.

Her family meant everything to her. Attending every birthday, graduation, holiday, or wedding and if she could not be there in person she would send a card and it was always on time.

She loved to tell jokes and was full of wit. She was known as the jokester at her weekly TOPS Meetings “Taking Off Pounds Sensibly” and were enjoyed by all her Tops friends.

Her favorite things to do later in life were Dairy Queen-Heath Bar Blizzard and Dunkin Donuts, Boston Cremes were her favorite.

She was the Matriarch of the family and will be missed for her kindness, gentleness, wit and spunk and being the family Grammer Police.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her three sisters, Evelyn Sears McDonald, Norma Jean Sears Hedin, and Bernice Estelle Sears; and her husband, Arlen H. Davis.

She is survived by her son, Douglas Warren Davis (Karen); daughters, Debra Lee Davis Kallum (Dennis) and Karen Jean Davis Gardner (Jesse); grandchildren, Trista Marie Kallum, Sarah Michelle Stalker, Alexander Wesley Davis, Kyle Hunter Daigneau Gardner, Zachary Gillette Davis (Stephanie), Allyson MeKenzie Gardner Spain (Cody), Jesse “Jess” Bryant Gardner, III (Camry); great grandchildren, Caleb Hunter Penny (Caley), Emma Claire Fry, Lilah Belle Marie Fry, Landon Chase Stalker, Natalie Elyse Stalker, Lily Marie Gardner-Gody, Bailey Ann Spain, Boden Anthony Spain; and great-great grandchildren, Raelynn Marie Penny.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Horses of Pamlico, Etc “HOPE”, Animal Rescue, 135 Moores Swamp Rd. New Bern, NC 28560.
