John D. Brady, Jr., 91, died November 5, 2018, at his home. He attended Oriental High School and was valedictorian of the class of 1944. After graduating cum laude from Wake Forest where he received a BS with a group major in biology, chemistry, and physics, he worked for a comparatively brief period in Asheville as Psychiatric Aide at Highland Hospital and Dance Instructor at the local Arthur Murray Studio. Later he earned an MLS from Peabody Library School, now a part of Vanderbilt University, and worked for four years in the Central Library of The Free Library of Philadelphia. Next, over a span of twenty-five years at Queens Borough Public Library, he filled various supervisory public service positions in branches and the Central Library, as well as advisory and consulting staff positions in the administrative offices of Extension Services, Personnel, and Management Analysis.
He is preceded in death by his parents and four of his siblings.
He is survived by one brother, Paul Brady of Oriental, dear friends, Hank and Bettie Williams; and numerous nieces and nephews.
His funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, November 8 th at Pamlico United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mike Roach officiating. Interment will follow immediately in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 10:30 .m.
In lieu of flowers the family suggested memorial contributions be made to Pamlico United Methodist Church c/o Tillie Roberts, 9985 NC Hwy 306 S, Arapahoe, NC 28510.
