John Hayden Wetherington

John Hayden Wetherington, 85, of Cove City, NC passed away Thursday, November 4, 2021, at Bayview Nursing Center & Rehab Center.

John, often called Hayden was a native of Craven County and the son of Pollock and Irene Wetherington and brother of James Harper Wetherington who preceded him in death. He graduated from Dover High School where he played basketball and baseball.  He began his career farming and then transitioned into hauling fertilizer and crops but ultimately his love of farming prevailed and he returned to his roots.

He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Nancy Ipock Wetherington; daughter, Kimberly Wetherington Gray; sister-in-law, Lois Wetherington Swinson; and nieces and nephews, Jo Barrow, Amy Wetherington, James H. Wetherington, Jr., Tina Boyette, Russell Ipock, Lisa Neely, Carol Lamb, Duffy McCoy and Penny Cleland.

A graveside service will be held Sunday, November 7 ^th at 2:00 p.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Greg Meadows and nephew Russell Ipock officiating.

In lieu of flowers the family suggested memorial contributions be made to Asbury United Methodist Church, 1780 Asbury Rd., Cove City, NC 28523 or an organization of your choice.
