Johnnie Ivan Toler, 69 of Cayton passed away Saturday, June 3, 2023, at CarolinaEast Medical Center.

Johnnie graduated from West Craven High School in 1972 and soon after began working at Hatteras Yacht in New Bern NC as a cabinet maker. He worked at Hatteras for 40 years.  He was an exemplary cabinet maker for Hatteras Yacht as well as building many cabinets, countertops and other small furniture for his family and friends in the Cayton community.

Johnnie was a member of New Haven FWB church in Cayton and served as a Deacon.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Quentin and Doris Toler; sisters, Jennifer Centers (Darrel), Mary Jones, and Linda Toler; sister-in-law, Cathy Toler; brother-in-law, Tiny Jones; and nephew, Jackie Centers.

Johnnie married the love of his life, Martha on May 17, 1974. They just celebrated 49 years of marriage. Although they never had any children of their own, Johnnie was a father figure to many of his nieces and nephews.

He is survived by his wife, Martha Toler; brothers, Donald Toler (Sherry), and Leslie Toler; brother-in-law, Victor “Tommy” Jones; sisters, Kay Jones, Marilyn Jones (Jimmie), and Connie Moore (Buzzy); nephew, Joe Raines (Christine); great-nephew, Tyler Raines (Leah) and their children, Haidyn and Addisyn; great-nephew, Kenly Raines; great-niece, Kameron Raines and son, Dalton; and numerous nieces and nephews, Mike Jones, Tammy Evans, Laura Barbour, Jeanie Marsden, Victor Jones “Jr”, Kevin Jones, Rosemary Anderson, Roxie Register, Amy Rains, Mark Jones, and Quentin Toler.

Johnnie enjoyed the outdoors. He enjoyed running rabbit dogs with his nephew, Joe Raines and special friend, David Bazemore. Johnnie always had a passion for fishing and enjoyed spending time at the river (Paradise Shores) with his family. Paradise Shores was his second home. If he wasn’t actively fishing, he would enjoy sitting in the shade watching his great nieces and great nephews fish and play.

His presence will be missed by all that knew him.

His funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 7th at Daniels Sadler Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Scott Fitzgerald, Joe Raines and Rev. Jonathan Ipock officiating. Interment will follow immediately in High Bridge Cemetery, Cayton with pallbearers as follows: Tyler and Kenly Raines, Victor “Jr”, Kevin, and Mike Jones, and Michael and Chris Black.

The family will receive friends and relatives one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
