Juan Eduardo Hisada

October 15, 1930 — July 27, 2023

This is a tribute in memory of an extraordinary man, Juan Eduardo Hisada. Juan, 92, passed away July 27, 2023 at home with family following a prolonged nearly 12-year illness, his wife of 68 years, Alice Mac Manus, by his side.

Juan was a great man and a leader. For all blessed to know him, you knew what a special person he truly was. He was also funny! He never said an unkind word to anyone. To all those around him, he brought an aura of happiness, kindness and a huge smile.

Juan was born in Catavi, Bolivia, South America. This was a small tin mining town, high in the Andes mountains. His parents worked hard, running a store with a restaurant attached. He attended high school in Oruro, Bolivia, graduating at the top of his class.

In 1952, he came to the U.S. to attend NCSU’s school of engineering. In Raleigh, he met Alice Mac Manus, his wife to be, marrying in 1955.

Becoming an Industrial Engineer, Juan worked for the state of North Carolina for more than 30 years. In Raleigh, Juan and Alice worked and raised seven children. Juan was one of the original coaches in Raleigh’s Capital Area Soccer League, coaching young kids, teens, and young adults over many years.

Upon retirement in 1993, Juan and Alice moved to Pamlico County, first to Minnesott Beach, where the family had vacationed since the 1960’s, and later to Oriental. Juan had many friends and a full life, assisting the Fishes and Loaves Food Pantry, service to his beloved St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic church, and enjoying time with his large family.

Juan was preceded in death by his parents, Sima and Sadaco Hisada; sisters, Luna and Juana; and grandson, Matthew Hisada Godwin.

He is survived by his wife, Alice, daughters, Teresa Godwin and Amy Hisada, sons, Paul (Susan Goldstein), Juan “Jackie”, Robert, Michael, and Steven Hisada; grandson, Kenneth “Kent” Godwin, Jr., granddaughters, Anastasia “Stacy” Godwin King (Caleb), Lauren and Rachel Hisada, and great-grandson, Jackson Matthew King.

Juan was our hero, a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend to all who knew him. We love you “Papa” and know you are watching over us always.
