Judith "Judy" Mackey Hancock

Judith “Judy” Hancock, 62, of Arapahoe, NC, passed away suddenly on Thursday, October 19, 2023, at Vidant Medical Center following a stroke.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Roy Elton Hancock, Jr., of Pamlico County, NC and parents, Charles and Rita Mackey of Buckhannon, WV.

Judy is survived by her sons, James “Jimmy” Veith of Arapahoe, NC, Joseph “Joey” Veith (Shannon) of West Virginia, Justin Veith (Heather) of Pamlico County, NC, and her grandchildren Karley Veith and Ryan Veith of Pamlico County, NC.

Judy was born on March 13, 1961, in Buckhannon, West Virginia.  Following the passing of her mother, Judy moved her family to North Carolina, looking for a fresh start.  It was here that she met Roy Hancock, someone who truly loved and cared for her and her children as if they were his own.  Judy and Roy enjoyed several years of happiness together until Roy lost his battle with cancer, all too soon.

Judy worked at Gary’s Downeast Seafood Restaurant for more than 25 years, becoming Head Chef and Kitchen Manager, retiring in 2022.  Judy loved to cook and to take care of her family.  She was a devoted mother and grandmother, spending every moment she could with her grandchildren, Karley and Ryan, who she loved more than anything.

A memorial Service will be announced at a later date.
