Kelly Peele Day

Kelly Peele Day, 71, of Florence passed away Monday, July 25, 2022, at home with his family by his side.

Kelly was born September 8, 1950, to Bert Charles Day “B.C.” and Mary Peele Day.

He was preceded in death by his father; granddaughter, Kimberly Dawn Meekins; and brother, Danny Day.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 53 years, Mary Catherine “Cathy” Ashburn Day; his mother, Mary Day; daughter, Tina Day Meekins (James); son, Michael Peele Day (Lucinda “Cindy”); grandsons, Landen Meekins, Michael Peele Day, Jr. (Lorna Wooten, girlfriend), and Nathan Day; brother, Herman Day (Missy Garris, girlfriend); sister, Anna Day Arthur; and many nieces and nephews.

Kelly worked as a long-distance truck driver; worked on the water; as well as many other jobs over his lifespan.

Kelly loved his family with all his heart and was affectionately known as Pop-Pop by his grandchildren. He loved going to flea markets with his wife; loved talking and joking with people; and enjoyed going to the drag strip. Most often Kelly would be out in his barn working on cars, lawn mowers, chain saws and tractors.

He loved the Lord with all his heart. He had a lot of health issues from diabetes over the last few years and was diagnosed with stage three colon cancer that had already spread. He was sent home from this diagnosis under hospice care, but fought hard these last three months.

His graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 29 ^th at Concord Memorial Garden, Florence.

The family will receive friends and relatives thirty minutes before the service at the cemetery.

The family wishes to thank hospice for the compassionate and professional care they gave. As a family, we will miss his smile and those blue eyes but take comfort in knowing he is no longer suffering and will live in our hearts forever.
