Kenneth Rollin Eliot

Kenneth R. Eliot (BUB), 79, Oriental, NC passed away on 17 Oct. 2022, at home surrounded by his “Heart Song”, Gail Good.

Bub was a true sailor having taught himself how to sail on the ponds of Kansas. He discovered Oriental while reading sailing books and had to see why all of them included Oriental in their references. Once moving to Oriental, Bub became the Dock Master at the Oriental Marina. He was a frequent visitor of the Top Side and the Trawl Door.

Bub graduated from Great Bend High School, joined the Army, managed True Value Hardware in Salina, KS, and sold advertising for the Pamlico News. He had a passion for dancing and many times he could be found with “Happy Feet” listening to a band. He loved camping with his children, loved dogs and cats and spent many hours working crossword puzzles. He had a heart big as gold and would do anything for anyone. On Memorial Day he could be found placing flags on “his soldiers” graves in Oriental. He was extremely patriotic and would correct people if they flew the US Flag improperly or did not have a light on it at night.

Bub also taught himself how to build items out of wood. He was great with his hands and talented in designing. He was so proud of his wood shop at home and named it “the Wood Butcher”.

Bub was preceded in death by his father, Arthur (Sonny); mother, Lillian; sister, Janice; and brother, Donald; and three nephews, Lee, Barry and Eric; and his former wife, Joyce.

Bub is survived by his sister, Cathie and husband, Alfie; sister-in-law, Ginny; daughter, Stacey (son-in-law, Jeff); son, Brian; three grandsons; six nephews; three nieces; and his soul mate, Gail Good. Gail was his “Heart Song”; his first girlfriend and his last girlfriend.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Oriental Marina Tiki Bar on October 29 ^th at 1:30 p.m. Finger food will be provided, and the Tiki Bar will be available as a cash bar.
