Kerry Douglas Holton, 70, of New Bern, passed away at his home on Wednesday, July 11, 2018. He was born on February 14, 1948, to the late Nellie Alfred Holton.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Jordan Holton; daughter, Kelsey Holton-Hill; two grandchildren, Jared Christian Hill and Madison Grace Hill; two brothers, Terry W. Holton, and wife, Vannah, and Roy C. Holton, Jr. and wife, Beverly; one brother-in-law, Coley Jordan and wife, Laura; as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.
Doug graduated from Pamlico County High School in 1967. During his high school years, he enjoyed playing guitar with a local band (Beach Combers, Wild Things, and The Symbols). He attended Craven Community College where he studied architectural drafting and began his work career as a draftsman at General Electric in Wilmington, NC.
In 1969, Doug enlisted in the U.S. Army, 1 st Cavalry Division, 13 th Signal Battalion, and served in the Vietnam War as a Radio Relay & Carrier Attendant. After being wounded in Cambodia on June 14, 1970, he received the Bronze Star with Valor, Purple Heart, and the Army Commendation Medal with Valor for ground combat and heroism.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, photography, playing guitar, and was very fond of aviation. Doug spent time building ¼-scale model airplanes and flying them with the local model airplane club. He eventually moved to ultralight personal aircraft, where he further enjoyed the freedom of flight.
The family will receive friends and relatives on Monday, July 16 th from 6:30 to 8 at Bryant Funeral Home. A private, family graveside service with full military honors will be held at a later date at Coastal Carolina State Veteran’s Cemetery in Jacksonville, NC.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to: DAV (Disabled American Veterans) Craven County Chapter #40, 1175 Pine Tree Drive, Elks Lodge #764, New Bern, NC 28561; or DAV, Pamlico County Chapter #93, 800 Main Street, Alliance, NC 28509.
