Larry Holton Prescott, age 83, of Grantsboro, Pamlico County, North Carolina died at UNC Chapel Hill Hospital on Tuesday, April 19, 2022. He was born at home in Grantsboro on September 16, 1938, to the late McVernon Prescott, Sr. and Grace Holton Prescott. He was the husband of Frances Harris Prescott whom he married in 1963. Mr. Prescott retired as the Dean of Students for Pamlico Community College. He was also a teacher and administrator for Craven County Schools. He was employed with the State of North Carolina for over 30 years. Mr. Prescott was a member of Broad Creek Christian Church where he served as an Elder, Sunday School Teacher, Choir Member and Choir Leader. He attended and graduated from Pamlico County High School, Campbell Junior College and East Carolina University. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and a Master’s Degree in Education.
Mr. Prescott was involved in Babe Ruth Baseball, Boy Scouts of America, the Pamlico County Historical Society, Pamlico Heritage Museum, and a Board of Trustee for Pamlico Community College and Mild Atlantic Christian University. He was awarded the State of North Carolina “The Order of the Long Leaf Pine” in 2018.
In addition to his wife, Frances, of 58 years, Mr. Prescott is survived by his daughter, Penny Prescott Miller (Horace) of Washington, NC; daughter, Joanna Prescott Holton of New Bern; and son, John Prescott of New Bern. He is also survived by seven grandchildren who called him “Papa” and adored him immensely. They are Caleb Miller, Joshua Miller, Sarah Beth Miller, Zackary Holton, Isabella Holton, Cecilia Holton and Layla Prescott. Larry is also survived by his twin brother, Jerry Prescott (Pat Lee Prescott).
A homecoming service will be conducted at Broad Creek Christian Church, New Bern, North Carolina on Sunday, April 24, 2022, at 3:00 p.m. The service will be officiated by Johnny Maurice and Zackary Holton. Interment will follow immediately in Sandhill Cemetery.
A reception will be held immediately following the interment service at Broad Creek Christian Church.
