Lesley Thompson Robinson

Lesley Thompson Robinson, 91, of Oriental, passed away Friday, June 23, 2023, at the North Carolina State Veterans Home in Kinston after a short illness.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Patsy “Pat” Robinson; daughter, Judy Rash; and son, Tommy Robinson.

He is survived by his daughter-in-law, Judy Robinson; granddaughter, Michelle Sersland (Dustin); grandson, Christopher Robinson (Ashley); three great-grandchildren, Kyler, Tanner, and Carter Robinson; and brother, Daniel Robinson.

Lesley was born in Kershaw, just outside Oriental in 1931. He proudly served his country in the US Navy for 22 years, retiring as a Lt. Commander in 1970. After retiring, he returned to Kershaw with his family and resided there until his passing. He worked numerous jobs over the next few years, including Weyerhaeuser, Nutrien Phosphate Aurora/Texas Gulf, and served as the Pamlico County Tax Collector. He enjoyed fishing, shrimping, and playing country music with his friends.

After attaining the rank of Chief Petty Officer, Lesley studied and completed college, going into the Officers Candidate School. He received more education through schools, experiences, and adventures in the Navy. He was a man of integrity and respect. He was always polite and had a charming wit. He enjoyed solving challenging crossword puzzles, mowing his 3+ acre home place, and reminiscing about the good old days or sharing a joke. He was a blessing to his family, friends, and especially to his Kershaw Loop neighbors who helped care for him in his later years. A special thanks to his daughter-in-law (Judy Robinson) who lovingly cared for him following the passing of his son, Tommy, two years ago. He will be missed by all who knew him over his long life.

The family would like to thank the staff on the 4th floor of Carolina East Medical Center and the staff at the NC State Veterans Home in Kinston. He received the best, most loving care anyone could ask for.

A private interment will be held at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville at a later date.

In lieu of flowers the family suggested memorials be made to one’s favorite charity.
