Leslie Oscar Wetherington Jr. passed away peacefully at night on April 7, 2020, after a long battle with melanoma.

"Les" was born October 31, 1955, in New Bern, North Carolina where he lived most of his life outside of attending North Carolina State University and his time spent on the road while traveling with a band. Music was a huge passion of his and he was a member of many bands during his life including (but definitely not limited to) Take Two, Cuzins, and 3 Day Weekend. He was a big kid at heart and spent countless hours riding roller coasters with his kids at his favorite place on earth, Disney World. He enjoyed photography, especially capturing sunrises and sunsets from his back deck overlooking the Neuse River. He adored his cat and treasured companion, Mortimor, for whom he also acted as a manager during the cat's "career" as a local weather cat. He was known by many as a friend, engineer, musician, and cat manager but by far his greatest role was that of dad.

He was survived by his daughter, Kasi (Robert) Barker of Cary NC, his son, Evan Wetherington of Anchorage AK, his grandson, Miles Barker of Cary, NC and his two sisters, Anna Denton of Hiawassee, GA and Ilene Caton of Gastonia, NC. He never got to meet an additional grandson who was welcomed in 2021, Emmett Barker, but we know he would have loved to.

Funeral services will be held on October 1, 2022, at Greenleaf Memorial Park (New Bern) at 11 AM.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in his honor to the Boys and Girls Club of America or the CarolinaEast Cancer Center of New Bern.
