Letha Wells Forrest

Letha Wells Forrest formerly of Vandemere, passed away peacefully on December 4, 2020 at Carolina East Medical Center. Letha was born in Wallace, NC, and lived much of her adult life in New Bern. Letha earned her RN Nursing Degree from Rex Hospital School of Nursing in Raleigh, where she met John Watts. They later married and settled in New Bern and raised four children. Letha loved playing bridge, gardening and spending the day with her kids in the Trent River or with her good friends, Dr. Graham and Mary Barden at Cape Lookout. Letha was a wonderful seamstress and could sew costumes, mend uniforms and complete other sewing projects at a friend’s request.

Letha was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Forrest; son, John Watts Jr.; parents, Ranford and Margie Wells; and one sister, Lillian Posey. She is survived by her children, Elizabeth Evans of Jacksonville, NC, James (Tammy) Watts of New Bern, NC, Mark (Jenn) Watts of Murrells Inlet, SC; two sisters, Ruby Norris and Lila Cashwell, both of Wallace, NC; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A private Memorial Service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Letha’s memory to the charity of your choosing.
