Linwood "Skip" A. Bailey

April 14, 1947 — October 12, 2024

Linwood A. "Skip" Bailey, age 77, of Oriental, North Carolina passed away on October 12, 2024.

Formerly of Harpswell, Maine, Skip grew up navigating the waters of Harpswell Sound and Casco Bay. His ancestors founded the community of nearby Bailey Island.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Lillis Voter Bailey.

Skip is survived by his son, Roy Lux (Lori); grandsons, Bryan Lux, Justin Lux and Brandon Ramos; granddaughters, Lizette Lux and Allison Ramos; great-grandson, Mason Ramos; and many friends in Maine and North Carolina.

Skip was a larger-than-life man of many talents. Before moving to Pamlico County in 1984 to establish his homebuilding business, he was a restaurateur, lobsterman, builder, and craftsman in Maine. One summer, he and his team built hundreds of lobster trap replica coffee tables that were offered in L.L. Bean's catalog; he gave the first one to his mother.

For relaxation, Skip raced cigarette boats and showed his custom hot rod that won many trophies. Besides his many friendships, the homes and log cabins Skip built, as he said, ". . .from Maine to Florida," are his enduring legacy. He will be dearly missed by all that had the pleasure of knowing him.

No services are planned. In accordance with Skip's wishes, cremation has taken place; his ashes will be spread over the water at a later date.
