Lois Dean Venters Alexander, 78, passed away on Monday, May 1, 2023, at home, surrounded by her family. Lois was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She is preceded in death by her parents, Edward Sutton and Nellie Odell Venters, first grandson Beau Alexander Ellenberg and brother, Ted Fertig.

Lois Dean Venters Alexander was born in Galveston, Texas on February 21, 1945, to parents, Edward Sutton Venters and Nellie Odell Wingard Venters. As a child, Lois and her family traveled often through the southeast due to her father’s work and eventually settled in Oriental, N.C. with her family. She grew up in Oriental and attended Pamlico County High School where she met the love of her life, Charles, whom she married on March 2, 1963, and enjoyed over 60 years of marriage. She and Charles moved to Newport News, Virginia in 1963 and returned to Stonewall where they built their home in 1966. She and Charles resided together in that home on Spain Farm Road the remainder of her life.

Visitation and Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 3 rd . The Funeral will be held at 3:00 p.m. at Daniels-Sadler Funeral Home in Alliance. Visitation with the family will start at 1:30 p.m. prior to the funeral service. A private burial will follow the funeral service where she will be interred at the family plot located in the Oriental Cemetery. At other times, the family will receive friends at the residence located on Spain Farm Road.

Lois was a member of and former Sunday School Teacher at Stonewall Methodist Church. She was an active American Red Cross gray lady hospital volunteer at Craven Regional Medical Center for many years before her health declined. She also was an active volunteer with the American Breast Cancer Awareness program. She was a former Pamlico Booster Club member and assisted with fundraising events for Pamlico County Schools.

She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 60 years, Charles Alexander, daughters; Karen Killingsworth and husband, Jeff; Shannon Ellenberg and husband, Brian. Grandchildren; Savannah Ellenberg Alexander and husband, Ben Alexander IV, Charles Tyler Ellenberg, Hunter Douglas Dombrowsky, and her first great grandchild, Benjamin Tillman Alexander V. She is also survived by sisters in law; Barbara Carey (Lester) and Ann Holton (Charles,) and her brother; Michael Venters (Barbara) and many nieces and nephews whom she loved very much.

The family also thanks her many caregivers and family that assisted the family during her extended illness. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Hospice of Pamlico County, PO Box 6, Bayboro, NC 28515 or the Harold and Elsie Alexander Scholarship Fund in care of Stonewall Methodist Church, PO Box 183, Stonewall, NC 28583.
