Luray Lee Jones, 79, of Grantsboro passed away Tuesday, October 4, 2022, at home.

She was a member of Vandemere United Methodist Church. After working with Scott Gas Co. she worked with the County of Pamlico first at the PC Water Dept then as a dispatcher with the Pamlico County Sheriff’s Office. She also served on the board at Pamlico Rescue for nine years. Luray loved playing Bingo but one of her greatest accomplishments was lovingly parenting Caylee and Bryce into adulthood.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Edna Ireland; her husband, George Jones; son, Al Whealton; stepsons, Guy and Donnie Jones; and a baby brother.

She is survived by her son, Dail Keith Wilkinson, Jr.; daughter, Elizabeth Wilkinson Bynum; stepson, Dean Jones (Kay); brother, Woody Ireland (Glenda); grandchildren, Caylee Bynum, Bryce Bynum, Allen Nobles, Jaron Whealton, Japeth Whealton, Gabrielle Whealton, and Skylar Jones; and three great-grandchildren, Brylea Grace Hardison, Royce and Kenley Whealton.

Her funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 8 ^th at Daniels-Sadler Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Scott Fitzgerald officiating. Interment will follow immediately in Sandhill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends and relatives from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday at the funeral home.
