Mack Scott Brinson was born on June 27, 1939, at the Sally Field house in Arapahoe, North Carolina. He was a member of United Church of Christ of Paradise Hills, California. He passed from this earth on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, in Hayward, California where he received exemplary care for more than 9 years in the loving hands of his caretakers at Arcadian Residential Community. Throughout his life, Mack was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.

After graduating from Pamlico County High School, Mack completed training in 1959 for the United States Navy in Great Lakes, Illinois, where he met his wife, Shirley. Mack then served his country, earning the rank of Interior Communication Electrician, 1st class (IC-1). He was stationed in San Diego, California where he raised his family and lived most of his life. Mack was deployed on many tours during his nearly 20-year naval career, serving on the U.S.S Long Beach, U.S.S. Sierra, U.S.S Rowan, U.S.S Southerland, U.S.S Robison, and U.S.S. Ramsey. Mack was a veteran of the Vietnam War. Upon retirement, Mack worked as an electrician for shipyard companies in San Diego, owned a gas station, and worked as a mail handler for the U.S. Postal Service.

Mack was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Scott, and Rufus B. Brinson; wife, Shirley Ann Brinson; brothers, Alfred C. Brinson (Norma) and Rufus B. Brinson, Jr.; sisters, Delta Brinson Roberts (Thaddius), and Emily Brinson.

He is survived by his daughter, Debra Brinson; son, Mack Scott Brinson, Jr.; his granddaughter, Laurel Sage Sinclair; nephews, James D. “Doug” Brinson, Thaddius R. Roberts (Lisa), and Kevin M. Roberts (Colleen); nieces, Kathleen Brinson Fountain (Noah), and Laura Brinson Temple (Tom); and several great, and great-great nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held for both Mack and Shirley Brinson on April 24, at 1 pm at Amity Christian Church in Grantsboro, North Carolina. Interment will follow immediately in Amity Christian Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends and family one hour prior to the service at the church.
