Martha Scott Heffelfinger

Martha M. Heffelfinger, 87, of Sterling, Illinois passed away on Tuesday, January 19, 2021, at her home.

Martha was born on May 4, 1933 in New Bern, NC, the daughter of Mayhugh and Hollon (Caton) Scott. Martha loved plants, and with her “green thumb”, she could grow anything. She also enjoyed crafting, crocheting, and cooking. Martha never met a stranger.

Survivors include two daughters, Vicky Ward of Grantsboro, NC, and Donna (John) Vasquez of Sterling, IL; two sons, Gary Johnson of Grantsboro, NC, and Dahn Heflebower of Leander, TX; five grandchildren, Cory (Shannon) Johnson of Beaufort, SC, Krista (Tim) Morthlund of Rock Falls, IL, Jamie (Christina) Johnson of Gloucester, VA, Amanda (Heather) Davis of Pamlico County, NC and Charles Tharp of Goldsboro, NC; and several great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Terrence; one son, Henry Mack Johnson III; one daughter, Brenda Avery; one son-in-law, Ross Ward; three brothers, Mayhugh Earl Scott, Ernest Lee Scott, and William Perry Scott; and two infant sisters.

A graveside service remembering her and her son, Gary Steven Johnson who passed away on June 9, 2021, will be held Saturday, July 24 th at 11:00 a.m. at Scott Cemetery, Scott Town Rd. It will be officiated by Pastor Ray Griffin. Parking assistance will be provided.
