Matthew Collins Salerno, known as “Matt” to his friends and family, passed away on February 22, 2024, in Trinidad. Matt was born on December 29, 1972, in Allentown, Pennsylvania, to Shelia and Lawrence Salerno.
A graduate of Wilton High School in 1991, Matt furthered his education at Craven Community College, where he earned an Associate of Applied Science degree in Networking Technology in 2004. His career was marked by dedication and excellence, working his way up over the years in several different positions at Craven Community College, where he currently worked as the Director of Information Technology.
In 2020, Matt married the love of his life, Denise and together they built a life together filled with love and laughter. They shared many adventures together and though the time was short; the memories are enough to fill a lifetime.
Predeceased by his mother Shelia Collins Salerno, Matt’s memory is honored and kept alive by his loving wife, Denise; his father, Lawrence; his sister, Karen (Carl) Boccadoro; nieces, Christina and Laura Boccadoro; and his in-laws, Russ and Debbie Hudson, with whom he was especially close. His absence will also be felt by a community of friends and colleagues who respected and admired him.
Matt’s warmth and easy-going nature will be deeply missed, most especially by his wife, but the memories he created will be a comfort to all who knew him.
Matt’s life will be celebrated on Friday, March 15th at Saint Paul Catholic Church in New Bern, NC. Visitation will begin at noon with the memorial service following at 1:00 p.m. A private family burial will be held at Celestial Memorial Gardens in Vandemere, NC.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Craven Community College Foundation, Brock Administration Building, 800 College Court, New Bern, NC 28562.
