Michael Craig Kokes

Michael Craig Kokes, 59, passed away on the morning of Wednesday, March 9th, 2022, in New Bern, NC. Michael (Mike) was born on February 9th, 1963, in Washington, D.C. and later moved with his family to Virginia Beach, where he became a graduate of Cox High School and where much of his life was happily spent. As a young adult, Mike discovered his talent and lifelong passion as a Journeyman Carpenter, a job in which he took great pride working several projects covering much of the South and East Coast. Mike knew no stranger, as his charm and sense of humor could make anyone smile and feel at ease. The only thing greater than his charisma was his generosity, as he would truly give anyone the shirt right off of his back and was always eager to be of service. In his free time, Mike enjoyed cooking cherished family recipes, listening to classic rock on his way to pick up many a beloved scratch-off lottery ticket, and spending time with his family.

Mike is preceded in death by his loving parents, Patricia Richardson Kokes and Donald Dean Kokes, Sr., and siblings Donald Dean Kokes, Jr. and Patricia Kokes Moore. Mike leaves to cherish his memory his two daughters, Kellie Kokes of Suffolk, VA and Breanna Kokes of Virginia Beach, VA; and his three siblings Kathleen Kokes Williams and husband Clif of Aurora, NC, Robert (Bobby) Kokes of Virginia Beach, VA, and Kevin Kokes of Minnesott Beach, NC.

A celebration of life gathering will take place on Saturday, April 2nd, 2022, at 2:00pm at one of Mike’s favorite restaurants - Margie & Ray’s on Sandbridge Rd. in Virginia Beach. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made via GoFundMe under “Michael Kokes Memorial Fund”. Any donations received will be used to lay Michael to rest with his beloved family at Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Virginia Beach.
