Michelle McKee Fodrey, 71, of Oriental, passed away Tuesday, August 26, 2025, with her daughters by her side.
Michelle was born in Selma, Alabama, November 17, 1953, the daughter of the late Herman and Winona McKee. In her early twenties, she moved to Oriental, where she fell in love with the beauty of the Neuse River and the charm of small-town life. After meeting and marrying the love of her life, Ted Fodrey, together they raised two beautiful and wonderful daughters.
Her love for Pamlico County, the water, and Oriental’s charm led her to a lifelong career in real estate, which she pursued for more than 40 years. Her passion for her work, her clients, and her extensive knowledge of the area always shone through.
Michelle’s greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her daughters, Mary Mc”Kee” Fodrey and Sarah Fodrey Jones and husband, Douglas Jones, Jr., of Pamlico County; her step-daughter, Melissa Watson and husband, Chris, and their son, Parker; her “perfect” grandchildren who were her heart and soul, Dawson Vaughn and Carter Swain; her two brothers, Michael McKee and Mark McKee and wife, Mary; nieces, Lauren and Shannon; nephew, Chris; and great-nephew, Drew. She was also deeply loved by her husband’s family, who embraced her as their own.
Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, August 29th at Oriental Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Harry Bryan of the Croatan Free Will Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow immediately in Oriental Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Thursday, August 28th from 6 to 8 p.m. at Daniels-Sadler Funeral Home and at other times at the home, 102 Pittman Circle, Oriental.
