Nicholas Boyd Mayo

Nicholas (Nic) Boyd Mayo of Dover, NC went to his Heavenly home on Thursday, March 23 ^rd , 2023, surrounded by his family at Carolina East Medical Center.

Nic is survived by his devoted wife of 48 years, Melanie Mason Mayo of the home; daughter, Kimberly Mayo of Dover, NC; son, Nic Mayo Jr. and his wife, Samantha Mayo of Angier, NC; his sister, Margaret Overton and her husband, J.L. Overton of Aurora, NC; eleven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nieces, and nephews.

He was a proud United States Marine who was born to Edgar and Beatrice Mayo in Lowland, North Carolina. He served in Vietnam as a decorated Sergeant in the prestigious 3rd Recon Division. He continued to serve in the Marine Corps Reserve and later as a deputy for the Pamlico County Sheriff's Office. Before he retired a few years ago, his passion for the water, led him to spend decades as a Master Captain on trawlers and supply ships.

Nic was a man’s man who never met a stranger and was the epitome of a true gentleman. His love for God, country, Corps, and family reflected his integrity and his servant’s heart.

He will be missed; his legacy will live on.

His memorial service will be held 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 27th at Daniels-Sadler Funeral Home Chapel.

The family will receive friends and family one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
