Peggy Sawyer Armstrong, age 66, of Grantsboro, passed away surrounded by love and family.
Born and raised in Pamlico County, Peggy was a proud Eastern North Carolina native who embraced the simple joys in life. She was the beloved wife of Johny Armstrong Jr., devoted mother to her daughter, Joy Bartle and her husband, Kenneth, and her son, the late Johny Armstrong III, and sister to Patty Jo “PJ” Schofell. Her heart was fullest when with her four grandchildren—Autumn, Olivia, Kimberlie, and Easton—who brought her endless pride and joy.
Peggy had a gentle spirit and a warm soul. She found peace by the water with a fishing rod in hand, joy in a kitchen full of good food and laughter, and comfort in a well-worn romance novel. She was creative and crafty, often making beautiful things with her hands. Her love language was care—always doing for others, especially her kids, without hesitation or complaint. If you knew Peggy, you were likely greeted with a smile, hug and a sweet “Hey Shug.”
She will be remembered for her kindness, her sense of humor, and the way she made people feel at home simply by being herself. Peggy was easygoing, deeply loyal, and lived her life rooted in love, laughter, and devotion to her family.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 12th at Sandhill Cemetery with the Rev. Scott Fitzgerald officiating.
She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
