Ray Wheeler Bennett, Sr.

Ray Wheeler Bennett, 80, of Reelsboro, North Carolina joined The Lord on Saturday, July 7, 2018 lovingly surrounded by his family.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Milford Rex Bennett, Sr. and Isla L. Bennett, brother, Milford Rex Bennett, Jr. and sister, Margaret B. Toler.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carolyn Piner Bennett; two daughters, Sandra Gillespie (David) of Rockledge, Florida, and Sharon Koprowski (Jaye) of New Bern; son, Ray Bennett Jr. (Lisa) of Reelsboro; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother, Ken M. Bennett; sister, Mildred B. Green along with his brother and sister in-laws, nieces, and nephews.

Ray led a truly fulfilling life and was at his happiest when spending time with his family.  He was a life-long active member of New Hope Christian Church and a devote follower of Christ.   He was an avid card player, hunter, and fisherman. He enjoyed traveling cross country in his motorhome with his wife, Carolyn. Always ready to see the humor in most anything, Ray brought joy and laughter to all who knew him.

Outside the home, Ray found success running his plumbing business, Bennett Plumbing, for 30 years.  His second career brought him closer to one of the things he loved most, Ice Cream!  For 10 years Ray worked as a Regional Territory and Franchise Development Manager for Dairy Queen and Maola Milk and Ice Cream Company.

All who were fortunate enough to call Ray family or friend now hold on to cherished memories.

His funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, July 11 ^th at Bryant Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Roach officiating.  Interment will follow immediately in Sandhill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends and relatives beginning at 1 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
