Ray Eldred Lupton, 99, of Lowland, died peacefully at home on February 11, 2019.
Ray was born August 23, 1919, to Marshall and Ruth Lupton in Lowland, NC. He graduated from Hobucken High School.
He spent most of his life working on a farm and the water. He was in the U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Navy, Marine Transport, and Merchant Mariners, as well as having a trucking business.
He is survived by his wife, Audrey R. Lupton, two daughters, Carolyn Phillips and Charleen Strickland; two stepchildren, Terry Popperwill and Gail P. Hodges (David); 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by both parents; three brothers, Hiram Lupton, Murry Lupton and Bruce Lupton; one sister, Nora L. Holladay; and one step-son, Walter “Nook Jr” Popperwill.
A celebration of his life with military honors will be held graveside at the Lowland Community Cemetery, Friday, February 15 th at 11:00 a.m.
Visitation for friends and family will be held at the Goose Creek Island Community Center, Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m.
