Early on July 20 th of 2018, Retha Harrington Lane of the Cayton Community, passed away at the age of 95. Mrs. Lane was the daughter of Johnnie S. and Jane Toler Harrington.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 74 years, Rev. Austin Graham Lane; and sisters, Annie Mae Harrington, Aileen Weatherington and Marie Harrington.
She is survived by her three children, Barbara Boyd of Chapel Hill, Carolyn Davis of Cayton, and Samuel Lane of Grantsboro; her brother, David Harrington of Kinston; five grandchildren, Melinda and Caroline Boyd, Valerie Powers, Sarah Krishnaraj and Matthew Lane; five great-grandchildren, Jaydon, Corbin, and Dallin Powers, and Nayan and Priyanka Krishnaraj; and her special, four-legged companion, Sadie, a faithful, albino mutt who showed up on the doorstep a few days after Christmas three years ago and has never left her side.
Mrs. Lane was a faithful servant of the Lord, serving alongside her husband in his 65 years of ministry in the Free Will Baptist Church. Together, they traveled across the country to places including California and Minnesota, with the LAO Evangelical Church. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, a hard-worker and good neighbor.
Her graveside service will be held 11 a.m., Monday, July 23 rd at Pinetree Cemetery, Cayton, NC, with the Rev. David Hansley, Rev. Walt Pence and Rev. Jose Perez officiating.
The family will receive friends and relatives from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, July 22 nd , at Bryant Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers the family suggested memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Pamlico, PO Box 6, Bayboro, NC 28515, or to the Humane Society of your choice.
