Richard Gary Burchfiel

Richard Gary Burchfiel passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at the age of 77, surrounded by his loving children.

Richard was a devoted husband to his late wife, Mary Suzanne “Suzanne” Burchfiel, who passed away on March 8, 2022. Richard and Suzanne shared 58 wonderful years of marriage filled with love, laughter, and partnership. One of their greatest joys was dancing the Carolina shag together for many years.

He is survived by his son, Richard Ky Burchfiel; his daughter, Melissa Burchfiel Hawgood; his son-in-law, Jason Temple Hawgood; and his beloved grandson, Benjamin Grant Hawgood.

Richard had a deep love for gardening, fishing, and dancing. He was known for his one-of-a-kind personality — a man who never met a stranger and could always be counted on to make people laugh.

With an indomitable spirit, Richard lived life on his own terms. He embodied perseverance and resilience, facing life’s challenges with strength and humor.

The world is a little quieter without him, but his memory lives on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. A life well lived. A soul well loved.
