Richard “Ricky” Lee Manker was baptized on September 27, 2015, and passed into the loving arms of his Lord, Jesus Christ on February 9, 2023.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Patsy H. Sadler; father, Vernon Manker; stepfather, Earl Sadler; maternal grandparents, Richard and Rosa Howerin; and paternal grandparents, Gus and Annie Manker.
Ricky is survived by his sister, Joy S. Carrere (John); brother, Earl Sadler, Jr. (Merry); uncle, O.B. Howerin (Dean); nephew, John Carrere (Amy); nephew, Brandon Carrere (Becky); nephew, Camron Carrere (Emily); nephew, Trey Sadler (Casey); niece, Madison Sadler; great-nephew, Jack Sadler; and many cousins that he considered brothers and sisters.
Ricky was born on November 17, 1953 in Lowland, NC with a love for Goose Creek Island and the Lowland community. A self-professed ‘high-tider’, he spent many days fishing from the banks of Fulford Point Road and the many canals throughout the island.
Ricky graduated from Pamlico County High School in 1972, where he developed his love for drafting and artwork. He was devoted to his community and expressed it through his gift of artistry, creating imagery for the Warden’s Grove “Our Daily Bread” recipe book, the Goose Creek Islander, and the annual “Blessing of the Fleet”.
A celebration of life will be held at Dublin Grove OFWB Church on Sunday, February 19 th at 3:00 p.m. Family will receive visitors in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers the family suggested making contributions, in his memory, to Dublin Grove OFWB Church, c/o Fay Peele, 282 Peele Rd., Aurora, NC 27806.
