Richard "Sammy" Stanley Henries, Sr.

Richard Stanley Henries, Sr. “Sammy”, 76, of Grantsboro, passed away Tuesday, March 16, 2021, at CarolinaEast Medical Center.

His is preceded in death by his wife, Velma Leary Henries; and parents, Ozzie and Mary Henries.

He is survived by two sons, Richard Jr. (Tina) and Michael (Stephanie); sisters, Rita Gray, Sheila Martin (Frankie), and Donna Cahoon (Johnny); and five grandchildren who called him Papa, Serenity, Felix, Eric, Asher, Cooper, and Piper.

Sammy was born in Lowland, NC.  He served in the US Coast Guard for four years and was issued the National Defense Service Medal.  After discharge, he continued his education for marine mechanics, graduating at the top of his class.  He continued for many years as a mechanic, eventually retiring from the Pamlico County School System.  Many people called him when they needed something.  There wasn’t anything he couldn’t fix.

Sammy was blessed with much musical talent.  He was part of different groups throughout his life, The Prescott Family, The Goose Creek Islanders, and The Jubliee.  He was a loyal member of New Vision PH Church where he played guitar and keyboard for the congregation and sang with his sisters.

He had a love for many things; Elvis, convertibles, music to name a few.  But his greatest love was for his family and the Lord.

His funeral will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 20 ^th at New Vision Pentecostal Holiness Church in Hobucken with the Rev. Wanda Atkinson and Rev. Ray Bonner officiating. Interment will be in Barnett Cemetery.

The family will receive friends and relatives one hour prior to the service at the church.
