Robert Emery Edwards

Robert “Bob” E. Edwards, a resident of Barre Town, Vermont, passed away on April 6, 2025, while wintering in New Bern, NC. Bob was born February 6, 1943, at Southampton Hospital, Southampton, NY., the youngest son of the late Clifford C. Edwards and Frances E. Edwards.  He was delivered by his Great Uncle, David Edwards MD. In his youth he resided in East Hampton, NY and attended Stoney Brook School for Boys and Graduated from New York Military Academy, Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY in 1961. After graduation he then attended Norwich University in Northfield, VT for a year. He dropped out of college to enter the workforce back in East Hampton, NY. In 1963 he decided to go back to school at the newly opened Southampton College of Long Island University, by 1967 he graduated with a bachelor’s in business administration. It was this year that he married Charlotte P. King on July 1, 1967. Bob was a lifelong learner; in 1976 he graduated from the FBI National Academy and in the following years he would continue taking courses ranging from forensic hypnosis & investigation to arson detection.

The education that Bob received allowed him to hold a variety of jobs and own several businesses over the years. Many of the businesses centering around Security services and private investigations: Care Security International, Diversified Computer Technologies, ITS & R.E. Edwards & associates to name a few. He spent 10+ years in law enforcement ranging from a Police officer in Stowe, VT to Police Chief in Barre Town, VT, & Washington County constable. Bob also spent several years working at The World Publications in advertising sales and credit & collections.

Bob gave his time to the community outside of work be it as a volunteer Firefighter or with the positions he held in several associations besides membership. One of these well-known associations he was involved in was the Vermont Association of Licensed Detectives (VALD) for many years. Along with that he was the president of the Chief of Police association of VT and a former chairman of the American society for Industrial Security (ASIS) Green Mountain chapter.

Bob was predeceased by sister, Elizabeth Edwards; and brother, Clifford “Jack” Edwards MD.

Bob was a loving but stubborn friend, husband, father, grandfather & great grandfather. At his passing he leaves behind his wife of 57 years, Charlotte (King) Edwards; his sister, Sandra (Bob) Orris; Children, Robert (Marie-Elena) Edwards, Kristin (James) Ferry, Jennifer Miller, Heather Edwards (Peter Simon), and Thomas Edwards; Grandchildren, Danielle (Kris) Kress, Shaelyn (Wyatt) Hutchison, Keegan Ferry, Alexandra Miller, Cameron Ferry, Samantha Edwards, Everett Edwards; Greatgrandchildren, Sterling & Lincoln Hutchison; several nieces and nephews; and many friends

A celebration of life is tentatively scheduled for the weekend of May 17, 2025, in Barre, VT.
