Oriental

Roland Johnny Ward Jr., 76, of Oriental, NC, passed away at home on September 9, 2025, surrounded by his family.

Born on November 15, 1948, in Charleston, S.C. to Roland Ward Sr. and Norine D. Ward, Johnny went to work at an early age to help his mother provide for his six younger siblings. He became the man of the house at age 13 and held that position for the next 64 years until his time of passing. Johnny married the love of his life, Cynthia "Rosie" Ward, in 1967. Together they raised a family of three sons over the next 58 years.

Johnny loved nothing more than to see his family and friends enjoy themselves. Whether it be hunting or fishing with his three sons or watching his family and friends spend an afternoon cooking out by the pool in his backyard. He was known for his steadfast work ethic and owned a successful restoration company for nearly 40 years where he taught his boys the value of a dollar and how to make one as well. He was a man of his word; he had a saying “Say what you mean and mean what you say.” He helped countless guys that were in need of a steady job and several of his guys stayed employed by his company for up to 30 years. Johnny always looked after his family as well as his employees.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Rosie Ward and two of his three sons, RJ and Dewey. Johnny was also survived by nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three of his six siblings, Jackie, Gerry and Billy.

He was preceded in death by his middle-aged son, Brandon, and three brothers, Allen, Ross, and Teddy.

A service will be scheduled at a later date. Family will contact relatives and friends once plans have been finalized.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of Pamlico, PO Box 6, Bayboro, NC 28515, in his name.
