Sally Simpson Midyette

Sally Brian Simpson Midyette died July 24, 2023, at her home in Oriental. She was born July 10, 1931, in Pamlico, NC. She graduated from Pierre S. DuPont High School in Wilmington, DE, 1949, and Delaware Hospital School of Nursing, Wilmington, DE, 1952.

She was preceded in death by her husband, G. P. “Brother” Midyette, Jr., and her son, Clarence B. “Buddy” Midyette.

She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Scott Anderson of Durham, NC, and Lucy and Charlie Hobgood of Raleigh, NC; son and daughter-in-law, George and Gail Midyette of Oriental, NC; and daughter-in-law, Pamela Hilbert of Gloucester, NC.

Her grandchildren are Marsha Anderson and husband, Brian Ballantine, of Durham, NC, Taylor and wife, Erin Hobgood, of Apex, Ellen Midyette and partner, Aaron Cleveland of Richmond, VA, John Hobgood of Cocoa Beach, FL, Paul Hobgood and partner, Mary Bolch, of Asheville, NC, and Adriaen Hobgood of Raleigh, NC. Also, Rita Pagan of West Chester, PA, and Jamie and Charlie Payne of Exeter, PA.

Her great-grandchildren are Colby and Nora Hobgood of Apex, and Drew, Caroline and Brigid Ballantine of Durham, NC, as well as Joey Pieperano and Nathan Ratti of West Chester, PA, and Colin, Patrick, Evelyn and James Payne of Exeter, PA.

Her brother and sister-in-law, Wilbur “Butch” and Ruth Simpson of Asheboro, NC, also survive, along with many cousins, nieces, nephews and in-laws.

The family extends profound thanksgiving for Gail Midyette, Irma and Fay Bond, and Gloria and Glenwood Tyndall for their many acts of kindness during recent years, and daughter, Lucy for her unwavering diligence at the end.

A memorial service will be held at a future date.
