Sara Roberts Smith

Sara Roberts Smith, age 79, passed away peacefully at home in Arapahoe NC on January 5, 2022.

Sara Alice Roberts was born January 31, 1942 in Pamlico County to Nellie (Sumrell) and Zeffie Roberts Sr. She graduated from Pamlico County High School Class of 1960. She met the love of her life and married William “Billy” Smith Jr from Lowland NC on February 24, 1963. To this union two children were born, William Lee and Selena Ann.

After High School, Sara was employed by Carolina Telephone, the Pamlico County School System and retired from Robert Bosch, New Bern NC.  Following her retirement, her focus became her home, her family and Bethany Christian Church.  She could often be found at home preparing for entertaining friends and family especially for the Holidays.  When not at home, she enjoyed spending time at the beach and making occasional trips to Atlantic City, NJ, where she enjoyed sitting next to family at her favorite slot machine whether Lady Luck was on her side or not.

Sara was preceded in death by her parents and siblings: Billy Roberts, Cecil Roberts and Faye Spruill.  She is survived by her brothers, Zeffie Roberts Jr. and David Roberts both of Arapahoe.

She is also survived by her loving husband of almost 59 years, Billy Smith; children: Lee Smith of Savannah GA and Selena Smith Swan of Prince George VA.; grandchildren: Jacob (wife Miranda) Smith, Amanda Swan, Sarah Swan and Sunny Smith; two great-grandchildren: Grayson Ryan and Juniper Alice.

A Memorial Service will be held at Bryant Funeral Home on Sunday, January 9 ^th at 2:00 pm with visitation one hour prior to the service.  Rev. Mike Roach will officiate services.
