Shannon Todd Willis, Sr.

June 7, 1965 — March 13, 2024

Shannon Todd Willis Sr., known as Shannon to his friends and loved ones, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2024, at Greenville Hospital, surrounded by his cherished family. Born in New Bern, North Carolina, on June 7, 1965, Shannon's life was a testament to resilience and a steadfast spirit.

At the age of nine, Shannon faced a life-threatening challenge that would shape his life's journey. While playing in the bean fields, he encountered a rattlesnake that bit him on his foot. Many speculated that this incident contributed to his short temper, yet those who knew him best understood that it only added to his determination and strength of character.

Shannon's life was marked by a love for adrenaline-fueled adventures. From a young age, he was captivated by dirt bikes, considering himself the newest Evel Knievel, constantly pushing the boundaries. As he aged, Shannon's love for adrenaline remained, and his interests shifted towards pro drag racing.

As the years passed, Shannon found his talent in operating heavy equipment, where he found his true calling. Well-known within the road grading community for his talent, Shannon dedicated over three decades of his life to construction, shaping, and grading roads.

He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, perseverance, and a zest for life that will be cherished by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. Many people remember Shannon for various reasons, but one aspect all could agree on is his unwavering love and determination to be a wonderful father.

Shannon is survived by his daughter, Haley Lewis; son-in-law, Johnathan Lewis; daughter Leah Willis; daughter-in-law, Heather Willis; grandson, Colton Willis; and brother, Seth Willis.  He was preceded in death by his son, Todd Willis; father, Lionel Willis; mother, Lois Willis; sisters, Paula Willis and Janice Willis; and brother, Lionel Willis, Jr. He also leaves behind a host of other relatives and friends who will continue to honor his memory and celebrate his remarkable life.

Flowers for the memorial can be sent to Amity Christian Church, Grantsboro, NC.

A celebration of Shannon's life will be held on Sunday, March 17th at 1:00 pm at Amity Christian Church. May his adventurous spirit and unwavering determination continue to inspire us all.
