The one that set the bar so high, Sherwood Watson Caraway, 66, of Florence NC, went home to be with the Lord and reunite with the love of his life, Delphia Ipock Caraway. They shared 41 years of marriage together with a love story that most can only dream of. The unconditional love they had for one another was truly never ending.
On Sundays, Sherwood, along with his granddaughter Emma, regularly attended Motion church for several years now. As a man of faith, he taught his children to live a life with God and Family first. He loved his family more than anything, always going above and beyond to provide and make sure everyone was taken care of. Superman would be an understatement, but in the eyes of his girls, he will forever be their HERO. Sherwood was a leader and teacher in everything he did in life. For more than a decade, he coached girls softball, sometimes 3 teams at once, leading to many championships for the youth of Pamlico County. As a mechanic, he enjoyed drag racing, loved horsepower and always had the need for speed which explains his weakness for that good ole American muscle. Sherwood developed a passion for hunting as a young boy. Being a well-traveled avid hunter led him to starting his very own family business, S&D Gun Shows, that with hard work and dedication, will continue for many generations to come. As Sherwood, himself would say, “The show must go on.” “It’s show time girls!”
He is preceded in death by his wife, Delphia Ipock Caraway and his parents, Roy B. and Mary Emma Williams Caraway.
He is survived by his daughters, Amber Caraway Spain (Ryan) and Lisa Diane Caraway and grandchildren, Emma Grace Spain and William “Blake” Spain all of Florence NC. His siblings, Patricia Johnson of New Bern NC, Richard Caraway (Teresa) of Florence NC, and Hilda Caraway of Florence NC; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and family-friends.
