Sidney Joel Scott

June 15, 1948 — August 1, 2020

Sidney Joel Scott, 72, of Oriental, North Carolina died on Saturday, August 1 peacefully at Carolina East Medical Center with Terrell by his side.

Sid was born in Hartford, Connecticut on June 16, 1948 to the late Archie Joel Scott and Inez -Marie Williams Scott. As a younger man, he spent ten years in Chicago, Il but the rest of his life in the Carolinas.

He graduated from Lower-Richland High School in Columbia, SC. He attended Wake Tech where he earned a degree in Network Administration. Over his lifetime, he reinvented himself into several careers ranging from selling real estate in Charleston, SC, personal property management, to running computer networks as a network engineer for a large corporation. He was a man that could do anything and if he did not know how to he taught himself.

He was drawn to Oriental, NC to learn to sail where he easily surrounded himself with old salts.  He enthusiastically participated with the sailing community in local regattas. When not here, Sid enjoyed the cooler temperatures at his NC mountain home.  He was an adventurous man who loved traveling.  He and Terrell most recently travelled to Italy in 2019 with close friends Nadine Gomez and Jim Morgan. He also loved following his friend, MLB catcher, Nick Ciuffo.  For many years of his life, Sid
dedicated his love serving as a foster parent to many children. He was an active member of Oriental United Methodist Church where he volunteered his time and talent serving on the Mission Team and calling Bingo at The Gardens Assisted Living in Grantsboro.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Archie Joel Scott and Inez -Marie Williams Scott. Siblings Ellen Marie Scott and Elizabeth Ann Mizell.

He is survived by his loving wife Terrell Tate Scott, and his like-minded, adventurous daughter Sara Caroline Scott, and Holden Willard (Elizabeth). His sister, April Scott Hancock (Eric), nephew Josh Hancock, and nieces Maggie Tate (Gabe), Katie Newman (Greg), Kate Shaver (Jordan), Carrie Swartzbaugh (Ted), his beloved dog Freckles and many close friends.

Sid had a strong Faith. It is comforting for us to know that he is in Eternal Peace. Sid was considered the rock of his family.

In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to Oriental United Methodist Church for Missions, 404 Freemason Street, Oriental, North Carolina 28571 or PAWS (Pamlico Animal Welfare Society, PO Box 888, Oriental. North Carolina 28571.
