Soon Ja Shuck went to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on February 10th, 2023. Soon Ja, endearingly known by most as ‘Mom’, was born in Kangwon-Do, Korea on October 25th, 1941.
Soon Ja was preceded in death by her father, Pak Chung-Yul and mother, Ei-Soonie Pak, as well as her husband of 46 years, John Egan Shuck.
Soon Ja is survived by her daughter, Nancy L. Ireland; her son, John E. Shuck, Jr. (Shawn); her daughter, Ginger M. Ireland (David); and daughter, Christina P. Sadler; her 8 grandchildren, Megan Sandres (Howard), Orval Ireland, John E. Shuck III (Charity), Nathan Ireland (Lauren), Johnathan Ireland, Brittany Soonie Pond (Sam), Timothy Hotchkin and Tiffany Hotchkin. She was also blessed with 3 great grandchildren, Ariel Shuck, Samuel Shuck and Sage Pond.
Soon Ja devoted her life to being a loving wife, mother and grandmother. The things that made her happiest were cooking, gardening, dancing, traveling, playing cards, watching traditional Bible stories and most of all, taking care of babies. We often referred to her as the ‘baby whisperer’. During her husband’s military career, she lived in several different states within the US, as well as other countries. She spent much of her time assisting within both the DAV and VFW organizations. In previous years when her health allowed, she was an active member of Silver Hill Christian Church.
‘Mom’ loved the Lord and knew He was her source of strength. That strength and determination was a testament to all that knew her. Her beautiful heart was displayed through her warm smile and laugh. Even as she struggled with many health issues, when asked how she was doing, her reply was always, “I’m fine”, with that big smile on her face. One of her favorite places was in her kitchen, cooking and feeding family and friends.
Mom, we will miss your comforting spirit, wisdom and all the love you gave so freely.
