Stephen Douglas Howard Sr. of Bayboro, NC, passed away on July 11, 2018, at UNC Chapel Hill Hospital, Chapel Hill, NC.
Mr. Howard was born in Brockport, NY on January 1, 1941, son of the late Veeder S. Howard and Josephine Brodie Howard. He graduated from Holley High School in 1959 and continued to work on the family farm, Howard Farms Inc. in Fancher, NY. In 1962, he married the former Patricia Sevenski. Upon retirement they relocated to Bayboro, NC.
In NY he was owner/operator of Howard Farms for many years. After retiring to NC in 1996, he worked for Mobile East Marine. An avid outdoorsman he enjoyed bird watching, fishing, boating, gardening and kept a well-manicured lawn. He sponsored Howard Farms Bowling League Team. Watching NFL football, NASCAR and other sports were indoor activities he enjoyed. He was a member of Farm Bureau in NY & NC and the Elks in NY. He always gave generously to several organizations. Steve’s wit and humor will remain in the memories of family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia, whom he lovingly called “Patty”; his sons, Stephen Jr. (Sheri) and Douglas (Kelley), whom he was ever so proud of; and his precious grandchildren, Nicole, Alexander, Allison and Rachael; two step-grandchildren, Holly and Brandon; brother, V. Brodie (Carol); sister-in-law, Bonnie; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Theodore Howard.
A service will be held on September 29, 2018 at 10 a.m. at Disciples United Methodist Church, 33 East Albion Rd., Holley, NY.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to a local organization of choice or Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Donor Services, PO Box 98018, Washington, DC 20090-8018.
