Steven Keith Barber, 64, was called home August 17,2021 and is now in the care of the nail scarred hands of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Steven was diagnosed with epilepsy at the age of 15. As a result, he suffered a traumatic brain injury but cheated death on more than that one occasion. He gave all the glory to God and shared his testimony with anyone who would listen.
He completed high school, worked at Food Land and Owen G Dunn printing co. His great love for music led him to open a gospel music store. He was a long-time member of Tabernacle Baptist Church and most recently Bayboro Baptist Church where he ran the sound systems. He adored his niece and nephews and loved family time with them especially playing Phase 10. He will be greatly missed but no doubt he is singing with the angels, and we will one day be reunited.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Richard “Dick” and Gail Barber; paternal grandparents, Bill and Marvel Barber; and maternal grandparents, Reuben and Nellie Hamilton.
He is survived by his sister, Gretchen Barber Heckman; niece, Reba Guthrie and husband, Gabe; and nephews, Adam Heckman and wife, Maddy, and Ethan Heckman.
His memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 21 st at Bayboro Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Scott Fitzgerald officiating. Inurnment will be in New Bern Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends and relatives one hour prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers the family suggested memorial contributions be made to Bayboro Baptist Church (sound/music system) PO Box 276, Bayboro, NC 28515.
