Sylvia Lee Norman

November 3, 1938 — November 4, 2025

Oriental

Sylvia Lee Boyd Norman, 87, of Oriental, went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, November 4th.

She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother as well as a great friend to so many that loved her dearly. Sylvia was born in Arapahoe, NC on November 3, 1938, to Sultan and Ruby Boyd. During her High School years, she loved playing basketball. She was truly a valuable player, scoring the most points in many games.

In 1958, she married the love of her life, Brantley Norman, Sr. Together they raised three children while operating their numerous businesses along the way. The longest running business was Brantley’s Village Restaurant, which they started in 1978. Ms. Sil was well known for her “Down East Clam Chowder” but even more so, for her delicious lemon, chocolate and coconut meringue pies. Both were recognized in Our State Magazine. Her passion was serving the people not only from Oriental but throughout North Carolina and beyond. She made many, many friends along the way.

Sylvia was a devoted member of the Oriental Free Will Baptist Church for many years. She cherished her church family and the many pastors who served throughout the years.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Brantley Paul Norman, Sr.; sister, Julia Ward Peterson; brothers, Robert Boyd and Jeff Boyd; her parents, Sultan Boyd and Ruby B. Lamm; and precious niece, Donna P. Thomson.

Leaving behind to cherish her memory are her children, Sandra Wing (Marty), Paula Ireland (Guy), and Brantley Norman, Jr.; her grandchildren, Mandy Mizelle (Derek), Jenny Satsatin (Romeo), Shannon Wing, Daniela Harrison (John Michael), Mark Norman, Aimee Love, Evan Ireland (Megan), and Allie Welborne (Josh); her great-grandchildren, Blake Mizelle, Logan Mizelle, Carter Harrison, Lawson Harrison, Tori Satsatin, Miles Love, Anna Grace Ireland, Colin Ireland, Luke Welborne and Theo Welborne. She also leaves behind her very special baby sister, Becky Tingen (LC), and many nieces and nephews.

Her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 12th at Oriental FWB Church, 600 Ragan Rd. Oriental, with the Rev. Ray Conner officiating. Interment will follow immediately in Paul Cemetery, Arapahoe.

The family will receive friends and relatives one hour prior to the service in the church fellowship hall.

The family would like to thank everyone for the many prayers, calls and visits during the past nine months. A special thank you to Hospice of Pamlico for their special guidance over the last several days.

As an expression of sympathy, the family suggests memorial donations be made to either Oriental FWB Church, PO Box 298, Oriental, NC 28571 or Hospice of Pamlico, PO Box 6, Bayboro, NC 28515.
