Talmadge Osborne Hudgins, Jr., affectionately known as Oz, passed away in New Bern, NC surrounded by family on December 8 th , 2022. Oz was born on December 1 st , 1943, in Pamlico, NC.
Oz, also known as Captain Oz by the fishing community, was a well-known commercial fisherman along the East Coast. He was one of the best fishermen around, and he spent much of his life dedicated to the fishing industry. While Oz may not have been an active commercial fisherman in his later years, he took pride in being a member of the North Carolina Fisheries Association to support fellow commercial fishermen. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. Oz enjoyed services at Pamlico Methodist Church and loved his family gatherings, and his family will always cherish the many wonderful memories made.
Oz is preceded in death by his parents T.O. and Helen Hudgins. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Judy; his sister, Julia (Jimmy) Spencer; his uncle Carlton Muse; his children Cathie (Bill) Hopkins and Tal Hudgins; grandchildren Darrow (Jacob) Paul, Jordan Hopkins, Kali (Parker) Cooper, Karie (Jordan) Jackson, and Morgan Hudgins; and great grandchildren Braxton, Eva, Claire, Davis, Parker, and Jones; and his good friend Phil who has been such a blessing to this family. The family is thankful for the medical personnel who helped Oz throughout his illness. They are especially grateful for Dr. Mahmood with Duke Cancer Center.
His memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 17 th at Daniels-Sadler Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Roach officiating.
The family will receive friends and relatives one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
